Blue Jays Named Top Trade Destination for Mets All-Star Pitcher

After losing Game 7 of the World Series last fall, the Toronto Blue Jays have had a tough start to the 2026 season. At the time of this writing, the Blue Jays have an underwhelming 16-21 record and are fourth in the American League East standings. They have also won just four out of their last 10 games, so things have not been the best for the Blue Jays right now. This is especially so when noting that they are also on a four-game losing streak.

Injury trouble is certainly a major reason for the Blue Jays’ shaky start to the 2026 campaign. Because of this, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they looked to add to their roster between now and the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline to try to save their season.

One of the Blue Jays’ top needs right now is another star pitcher for their starting rotation. Because of this, the Blue Jays are now being connected to one of the top pitchers in the rumor mill right now.

Blue Jays Named Potential Landing Spot for Mets Star Pitcher Freddy Peralta

In a recent article for FanSided, Chris Landers looked at the top trade candidates in the league and named a potential landing spot for each of them. New York Mets star pitcher Freddy Peralta was among the players mentioned by Landers.

When it came to Peralta, Landers picked the Blue Jays as the top potential landing spot for the two-time All-Star.

“I still think this team will be there come September, but they’re going to need some rotation reinforcements, and Peralta fits the bill beautifully if the Mets decide to sell. Yes, he’d be a rental, but we know the Jays have money to burn, and he has frontline stuff when it’s clicking,” Landers wrote.

The Mets currently sport a 14-22 record and are at the bottom of the National League East standings. With this, there is certainly a possibility that they will make Peralta available for trade near the deadline. If they do, it would be understandable if the Blue Jays tried to land him.

If the Blue Jays acquired Peralta, he would be a strong fit in the front half of their rotation. This is because he is a high-impact starter when performing at his best, and he has shown that throughout his career. This was certainly the case this past season, as he had a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts in 33 games with the Milwaukee Brewers. He also has a 3.12 ERA and 43 strikeouts in eight starts so far this season with the Mets.

Blue Jays Are Due for a Big Move Right Now

Given how this season has gone for the Blue Jays, it is fair to argue that they should be looking to make a big move sooner rather than later. Their biggest need is another star pitcher, so whether it’s Peralta or someone else, the Blue Jays should be aggressive.

A few other pitcher trade candidates who could be strong fits on the Blue Jays include Joe Ryan, Sandy Alcantara, and Robbie Ray.
