Blue Jays Linked to $56M Star Pitcher Amid Injury Woes

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ start to the 2026 season has been less than ideal. At the time of this writing, the Blue Jays have a 4-5 record and are third in the American League East standings. They have also lost each of their last four games, which included them getting swept by the Chicago White Sox in three games. With this, there is no question that the Blue Jays will be looking to get things back on track in their upcoming series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Blue Jays have been dealing with injury troubles early on this season, which have certainly not helped things. However, with the Blue Jays having plenty of talent, they have the potential to bounce back from their shaky start to the season.

Yet, with the Blue Jays having injury issues, they should not be afraid to try to add to their roster. This is especially the case when it comes to their pitching rotation. Because of this, they are now being connected to one of baseball’s top trade candidates.

Toronto Blue Jays Named Potential Trade Fit for Marlins Star Pitcher Sandy Alcantara

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy named the Blue Jays as a potential trade fit for Miami Marlins star pitcher Sandy Alcantara.

“The Blue Jays have been dealing with pitching injuries left and right to the point that they signed Patrick Corbin. If there was a team out there that could use an ace, it would be Toronto right now,” McAvoy wrote.

When looking at the Blue Jays’ current roster, there is no question that they could use a star pitcher like Alcantara. He would give the front half of their rotation a significant boost if acquired and would simply make the Blue Jays a more significant threat.

Alcantara has been off to a simply fantastic start to the 2026 season as well. In his first two starts of the season, Alcantara has not allowed a single run and has struck out 12 batters in 16.0 innings pitched. He also has one complete game and one shutout, so there is no question that the star pitcher is feeling it right now. With this, it would be huge if the Blue Jays struck a deal to acquire him.

While Alcantara had a tough 2025 season with the Marlins, he is showing clear signs of his former Cy Young Award-winning form. With this, the Blue Jays would be wise to consider targeting him as they continue to deal with injury trouble.

Blue Jays Won’t Be the Only Team in on Alcantara

With Alcantara being one of baseball’s top pitchers when he is performing at his best, there is no question that he will generate a lot of interest leading up to the deadline. As a result, Toronto will have competition to try to land him.

Yet, with the Blue Jays in need of another big-time pitcher, it would make sense for them to enter the sweepstakes for Alcantara. It will be intriguing to see if they can strike a deal for him from here.
