The Buffalo Bills may have just locked down an integral piece of their offensive line for the foreseeable future.
The team had reportedly been working with guard O’Cyrus Torrence on a contract extension, with reports of a deal coming late on Thursday evening. The Bills have already given long-term deals to several key members of the offense, and an extension for Torrence would be a big commitment in the line.
Bills Extend Another Key Player
On Thursday, the Bills news outlet Cover1 reported that the team and Torrence reached terms on a contract extension. Though the report did not give details like the number of years or total dollar figure, it noted that it was a “multi-year” deal.
“According to sources, the Bills have locked up one of the cornerstones of their offensive line, agreeing to a multi-year contract extension with starting right guard OâCyrus Torrence. More details to come,” the outlet noted in a post on X.
The Bills already have several other central pieces of their line locked in, giving long-term extensions to left tackle Dion Dawkins and right tackle Spencer Brown. The Bills also gave four-year extensions to running back James Cook and wide receiver Khalil Shakir last year.
The offensive line has been a cornerstone of the team’s offensive success, paving the way last year for Cook to earn the rushing title. The Bills running back rushed for a career-best 1,621 yards, the first Bills player to lead the NFL in rushing for more than 50 years.
O’Cyrus Torrence Spoke Up on Potential Bills Extension
Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski had already reported earlier in the week that the Bills were nearing a deal with Torrence, who has been a steady force for them in the trenches.
“Torrence, who’s started all but one game since his rookie season, is entering the final year of his contract,” Lysowski reported. “He has not missed any of the Bills’ 58 regular-season and playoff games since Beane selected him in the second round of the 2023 draft. The Bills were interested in re-signing Torrence this offseason, but Beane had to prioritize free agency and the draft.”
Torrence also hinted that he believed a deal was close, telling the Buffalo News that he was trying to focus on training camp as the final details fell into place.
“I know it can happen any day now, so itâs staying locked in now and focusing on myself and making sure Iâm ready for when that time comes and after itâs done,” Torrence told The News following practice Tuesday at St. John Fisher University. “Iâm going to approach the job after the contract the same that I do now. I canât let that take away from the main thing. My main thing is the team. I need to be my best self every day at practice. I let my agent take care of it and relay the information to me.”
