The Buffalo Bills lost a longtime backup to quarterback Josh Allen, then brought back his close friend to re-fill the role of No. 2.
Previous backup Mitch Trubisky will be leaving the team, agreeing to sign a new contract with the Tennessee Titans as the backup to second-year signal-caller Cam Ward. With Trubisky gone, the Bills made quick work of finding a veteran backup to replace him — one who is very familiar with Buffalo and close to Allen.
Bills Wrap Up Quarterback Search Quickly
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Bills came to terms with veteran quarterback Kyle Allen, who spent two seasons in Buffalo as the backup to Allen.
“Source: Former Lions QB Kyle Allen Is signing a two-year, $4.1 million deal worth up to $6.1 million with the Buffalo Bills, where he will reunite with his close friend Josh Allen,” Schefter reported in a post on X.
The Bills have not needed much from their backup quarterbacks in recent years, with Allen not missing a game due to injury since his rookie season. The Bills quarterback left the season finale both in 2024 and 2025 after taking a snap, maintaining his starting streak before handing the game over to Trubisky.
