Bears re-sign former Hinsdale Central, Illinois standout OL Doug Kramer to 1-year contract

Offensive lineman Doug Kramer continues to keep himself in the mix with the Bears, and they re-signed him Tuesday to a one-year contract.

Kramer, a former standout at Hinsdale Central High School and the University of Illinois, was a sixth-round pick by the Bears in 2022. This will be his fourth season with the team in some capacity.

He missed all of his rookie season with a leg injury, but hung around on the practice squad and now has played 18 career games, including 16 last season. He was with the Cardinals for a little over a week in 2023, but otherwise has spent his entire career with his hometown team.

The Bears have used Kramer, 26, at guard and center, and last season he worked part-time as a fullback. He was predominantly a lead blocker in that role, with one disastrous exception. Former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron called for Kramer to get his first career carry at the goal line in the game against the Commanders last season, and he fumbled the ball away for a turnover.
