Bears elevate WR Collin Johnson from practice squad amid injuries to Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze

With Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze each a game-time decision because of injuries, the Bears promoted Collin Johnson from the practice squad.

Allen, who has been nursing a heel injury since last month, and Odunze, who suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his right knee last week, are both listed as questionable for the Bears’ game Sunday night in Houston. Bears coach Matt Eberflus said he wanted to take the injury decisions up until late Sunday afternoon.

Johnson stood out in the Bears’ first preseason game, catching two touchdowns against the same Texans, before an injury hampered him the rest of camp.

The Bears announced that Ryan Bates, who has been fighting a shoulder injury since before training camp, was going to injured reserve. He shared time with right guard Nate Davis in the season opener. Bates, whom the Bears traded for this offseason. will be forced to miss at least four games.

The Bears also put snapper Scott Daly on the 53-man roster. He was promoted from the practice squad last week.
