Bears cutting TE Gerald Everett, DE DeMarcus Walker

The Bears are cutting tight end Gerald Everett and defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker, which frees up $10.75 million in salary cap space entering free agency.

“Chicago, it was brief and a learning experience, but I appreciate the love the city and the team showed me,” he wrote on social media Friday. “Looking forward to the next chapter. On to the next!”

Walker spent the last two years with the Bears, playing all 34 games and recording 3 ½ sacks in each season.

The Bears signed Everett to a two-year, $12 million deal a year ago, intrigued by his familiarity with then-offensive coordinator Shane Waldron’s system from their days in Seattle and also his recent production with the Chargers. After averaging 483 receiving yards in two games in Los Angeles, Everett totaled just 36 on eight catches in 13 games with the Bears. That marked tremendously underwhelming production, even for someone who was expected to be the Bears’ No. 2 tight end behind starter Cole Kmet.

Also Friday, the Bears promoted capologist Matt Feinstein to vice president of football administration.
