Bears coach Matt Eberflus: NFL teams will eventually play international games every year

WARE, England — Bears coach Matt Eberflus said he expects every NFL team will eventually play one international game per year.

That would be a change for the Bears, who are playing their third game in London since 2011.

“It’s about getting ahead of it and making sure you know who your team is based upon where the game falls in the season,” he said. “I think that’s an important part of it, and having a good knowledge of the staff to help make it easy and seamless for your players. That’s the most important thing.”

Poles on Nate

Bears general manager Ryan Poles described the performance of Nate Davis, the benched guard who is the second year of a three-year, $30 million contract, as “a little up-and-down” this season.

That’s charitable. Davis has been replaced by Matt Pryor at right guard. When left guard Teven Jenkins hurt his ankle Sunday, the Bears turned to Bill Murray — and not Davis — off the bench.

“That’s my job and my front office’s job — to create competition — and I think Matt’s done a really good job and Nate has some things that he can continue to work on,” Poles said.
