Bay Area man on parole for assault with a deadly weapon arrested for assault with deadly weapon

The Vallejo Police Department have made an arrest of Jeffrey Joseph Caldwell for assault with a deadly weapon.

On Tuesday at approximately 8:28 p.m.., officers assigned to the Vallejo Police Department Patrol Division responded to multiple reports of gunshots heard inside a hotel in the 2000 block of Solano Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers contacted multiple witnesses, including the hotel staff, and confirmed that Caldwell, without provocation, brandished a firearm and began discharging it inside the establishment.

According to a Vallejo Police Department news release, all employees and customers from the premises were evacuated to ensure their safety. Officers then initiated a tactical surround and call-out, but Caldwell refused to comply with the officers’ request for him to surrender.

A subsequent records check revealed that Caldwell is a convicted felon who is currently on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. Additionally, he had an active no-bail arrest warrant issued on December 16, 2024, for violating the conditions of his parole.

The Vallejo Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was activated, which consists of personnel from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), and the Tech Team. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) provided critical assistance by closing the eastbound and westbound on-ramps of I-80 and Solano Avenue to secure the area and maintain public safety.

After several attempts to communicate with Caldwell and de-escalate the situation; SWAT officers employed specialized equipment and less-lethal tactics to elicit Caldwell’s safe surrender. Chemical agents were deployed into the room Caldwell was inside, prompting him to flee out the front door. He was taken into custody by SWAT officers at approximately 12:51 a.m.. on Wednesday morning. During a subsequent search of the premises, officers located an unregistered firearm.

The Vallejo Police Department’s Detective Division took over the investigation.

Based on witness statements and physical evidence recovered at the scene, Caldwell was arrested for multiple felony offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, parole violation, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Caldwell was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before incarceration and was subsequently booked into the Solano County Jail.
