Bay Area interior designer accused of stealing from client’s home

Marin County sheriff’s investigators arrested an interior designer on allegations she burglarized a client’s home in Strawberry.

The alleged crime was reported on Thursday. The loss included $80,000 worth of jewelry and gift cards, sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn said.

When the client confronted the suspect, she admitted to spending about $5,000 on a gift card, but she denied stealing jewelry, Schermerhorn said. He said investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s vehicle and home in Novato and found the homeowner’s jewelry and gift cards.

Cesalee Venetta Venema, 43, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of burglary, embezzlement, possessing stolen property and grand theft. Her bail was set at $50,000.

Venema has been released pending further review by the district attorney’s office. She could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
