BART police officer injured after patrol car hit in suspected hit-and-run

RICHMOND — A BART police officer suffered serious injuries but was expected to survive following a suspected hit-and-run crash early Monday, authorities said.

The officer was in his patrol car, when somebody collided with him after running a red light, according to a statement from BART spokesperson Jim Allison. The officer was hospitalized.

Richmond police were investigating the incident, Allison said. Inquiries to that agency were not returned immediately Monday. Information regarding where the collision happened and when were not available immediately.

Allison said the officer was not involved in a pursuit when the crash happened. The wreck occurred while the officer was on routine patrol, Allison said.

Police did not announce any arrests. Information on the vehicle involved in the crash was not available immediately.
