With some injury concerns regarding the Baltimore Ravens‘ defense in training camp, they decided to make a move.
The Athletic Ravens reporter Jeff Zrebiec reported that the team is signing linebacker Jamon Johnson. Last year, Johnson was a member of the Green Bay Packers, joining the team as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft.
Johnson played in two games for the Packers, starting one. He racked up 10 tackles and one pass deflection.
In college, Johnson played for Georgia and Kentucky. Back in 2022, he was a first-team All-American and second-team All-SEC selection with the Bulldogs. He won two national titles with Georgia in 2021 and 2o22.

For the Ravens, this move makes a lot of sense: bringing in a younger linebacker with NFL starting and playing experience. Johnson ended up being pretty good in helping the Packers out while going through some injuries.
Baltimore has injuries of their own at linebacker. Teddye Buchanan is on the PUP list from his knee injury. Zrebiec reported that Carl Jones Jr. has missed the past few practices at training camp. The Ravens also noted that he doesn’t expect starter Roquan Smith to play at all in the preseason.
This could be Johnson’s chance to prove himself as a special teams guy on the 53-man roster or at least a practice squad member. His recent work in Green Bay should be enough to give him a legit shot.
One problem, though, is that he is coming into camp late and will have to learn a lot about the defense quickly. He’s only got one week to get it all together before their first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

One thing about new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter is that he knows defense well. Minter can find the best in a talent and bring out everything that is great about them.
Johnson is a versatile inside linebacker who has already shown good instincts for finding the ball carrier. He can help in pressuring the quarterback as well, so expect Minter to move him around.
This was the best-case scenario for both sides. Johnson joins a defense that is young and new. Minter gets a youthful linebacker he can develop during training camp.
Ravens fans will have to wait and see how this move works out and what it could mean for the rest of the roster. If Johnson ends up being a good contributor on special teams and in the preseason, they might have found a hidden gem.
