Avalanche sign Taylor Makar to NHL contract after strong senior season

The Colorado Avalanche signed Taylor Makar to his first professional contract.

It is a one-year entry-level contract for the 2025-26 season. He will join the Colorado Eagles on an amateur tryout contract for the rest of this season. This makes him eligible to play for the Eagles immediately and during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Makar, who turned 24 years old earlier this month, was a seventh-round pick by the Avalanche in the 2021 NHL draft. The younger brother of Avs star Cale Makar, Taylor had a breakout season with Maine after transferring from UMass.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound forward had 18 goals and 30 points for the Black Bears, who lost Friday night to Penn State in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Makar had 15 goals and 22 points in three years playing for UMass, where his older brother was the Hobey Baker Award winner in 2019.
