Alameda High School is presenting “Antigone 3021” in the Frederick L. Chacon Little Theater at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at 2 p.m. Sunday and again at 7 p.m. Nov. 15-16. This futuristic retelling of the ancient Greek tragedy follows the story of Antigone, who buried the body of her brother, Polynices, against the edict of the ruler Creah but adds some modern twists — such as a chorus that’s a talk show program and Antigone’s ability to broadcast her crime to the cloud. Tickets are available online at gofan.co/app/school/CA22847.
Meanwhile, Encinal Junior and Senior High School will present “The Outsiders” at 7 p.m. Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 21-23. This stage adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic coming-of-age novel tells the story of rival teen gangs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, struggling with a range of social and emotional issues, including socioeconomic differences and family dysfunction.
The novel, which Hinton wrote when she was just 15 herself, is considered one of the most influential young adult novels ever written. Go to gofan.co/app/school/CA22911 for tickets. We encourage community members to attend these performances by our talented students!
