Aurora man guilty of vehicular homicide in fatal Parker hit-and-run

An Aurora man was found guilty Thursday of killing a pedestrian after stealing from a Parker supermarket and leading police on a vehicle chase in 2023.

Douglas County jurors convicted Tory Conyers, 46, of vehicular homicide, hit-and-run causing death, eluding a peace officer, theft and reckless driving. He faces up to 18 years in prison and will be sentenced May 12, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office and court records.

Conyers was filmed by a security camera as he left the store with a shopping cart full of stolen items Aug. 21, 2023. Parker police tried to stop Conyers’ vehicle but broke off the pursuit for “safety reasons,” prosecutors wrote.

During his escape, Conyers ran a red light at Parker Road and Lincoln Avenue and fatally struck pedestrian Jossy Fernando Pinto, 51. Parker police arrested Conyers with the help of an Aurora police SWAT team two days later.

“It is one thing to blow through a red light and end an innocent life. It is another to run away like a coward from the death you created,” District Attorney George Brauchler said in the release. “He has forfeited the freedom he selfishly chose over humanity.”
