Ahead of Sunday’s game, Francys Romero of Beisbol FR reported that the Braves are signing a 25-year-old pitcher to a minor league deal.

The news was first reported by Miguel Rodríguez Hernández of Pelota Cubana USA.

Romero wrote: “Sources: Cuban LHP Julio Robaina signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves. Robaina, 25, was Cuba’s No. 3 starter in the 2026 WBC. He posted a 1-0, 1.47 ERA, 18.1 IP and 15 strikeouts with Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League this season.”

Robaina has many years of experience in the Houston Astros organization.

In 2023, he went 10-6 with a 3.18 ERA in 26 games in Double-A.

Romero also reported that Robaina will now head to the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Braves).

He will be worth keeping an eye on, as a few good outings could give him a real chance to make his MLB debut for the Braves.

Romero had written (on April 3, 2025): “Cuban LHP Julio Robaina (24) signed with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League for the 2025 season, per source. Robaina spent 7 years with the Astros in the Minor Leagues and had a great season in Double-A in 2023 (10-6, 3.18 ERA), 116.0 IP, and 114 SO.”
