Atlanta Braves Announce Chris Sale MLB History During Phillies Game

On Saturday night, the Atlanta Braves played the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The Braves won by a score of 3-1.

Chris Sale had a strong performance, going 7.0 innings (and allowing five hits and one earned run).

Sale also made MLB history during the game.

The Atlanta Braves wrote (via X): “Lefty legend 🤝 Lefty legend

Chris Sale just picked up the 2,608th strikeout of his career, which moves him past Hall of Famer Tom Glavine on the career strikeouts list 🫡”

Sale is off to a strong start to the 2026 season with a 4-1 record in 2.79 ERA.

He has thrown 29 strikeouts in his first five games.

Sale has been an incredible addition to the Braves.

He is in his third season with the team after a trade (via the Boston Red Sox).

The 37-year-old made the All-Star Games in each of his first two years with the Braves (and won the Cy Young Award in 2024).

Mark Bowman of MLB.com wrote: “Sale now has 2,608 strikeouts. That moves him past Glavine and into eighth place on the all-time list for left-handers. He needs just three more Ks to pass Chuck Finley. Next on the list would be Frank Tanana (2,773)”

Braves Right Now

With their win over the Phillies, the Braves are now 14-7 in their first 21 games, which has them as the top team in the National League East.

They are 6-3 in the nine games they have played away from Truist Park.

Currently, their series with the Phillies is tied up at 1-1, so they will look to take two out of three on Sunday.

Following the Phillies, the Braves will head to Washington, D.C. for a series with the Nationals.

Last season, they missed the 2025 MLB playoffs.

The franchise won the World Series Championship in 2021.
