Veteran high-leverage reliever Ryan Pressly has agreed to waive his no-trade clause to pave the way for a deal between the Cubs and Astros, a source confirmed Sunday.
When the trade is finalized, a process that includes physicals for any players involved, Pressly will add experience to the back end of the Cubs bullpen. The full terms of the deal were not immediately clear.
Pressly, a two-time All-Star, has accumulated 112 saves in his long career, serving as the Astros closer from 2020 through 2023. His resume includes 47 postseason appearances, and he threw the final out of the 2022 playoffs, as Houston claimed the World Series title.
When the Astros signed closer Josh Hader to a massive five-year, $95 million contract last year, Pressly moved to a setup man role. He posted a 3.49 ERA.
