The incident happened in the 3600 block of Delta Fair Boulevard when the girl’s mother stopped to drop off some flowers at the Antioch Florist, the Antioch Police Department said in a social media post.

While the mother was inside the shop, a person got into the driver’s seat of her vehicle and tried to drive off with the girl and her siblings still inside, according to police.

The girl “quickly jumped from the backseat and began pummeling the would-be car thief with an onslaught of punches,” police said. “The car thief, seeing that he was outmatched in both wit and bravery, fell from the driver’s seat and fled on foot.”

After learning about the incident, the girl’s mother called 911. Officers collected DNA from the vehicle and obtained footage of the suspect running from the scene.
