Three people were injured in a crash that was triggered by an animal in the middle of the street Monday night on the Northwest Side.
Around 10:10 p.m., a black sedan was going south in the 6500 block of North Caldwell Avenue when the driver hit the brakes for an animal in the street and a white minivan struck the sedan from behind, Chicago police said.
The driver of the car was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where his condition was unknown, police said. Two passengers in the sedan were taken to area hospitals where they were both in good condition.
The driver of the minivan refused medical treatment, officials said.
It was unclear what kind of animal was in the road and if it was injured.
The Major Accidents Investigations Unit was probing the wreck.
