Alex Cohen will call the Cubs’ four games in Tokyo for Marquee Sports Network alongside analyst Jim Deshaies because of a scheduling conflict with lead voice Jon “Boog” Sciambi, the Sun-Times has learned.
Sciambi is under contract with ESPN to call the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament, which runs Tuesday to March 15. Team personnel are departing for Tokyo on Tuesday.
“I had a scheduling issue that precluded me from making the outbound team charter, and we all agreed the travel turnaround would be too much,” Sciambi told the Sun-Times. “So I’ll be ready for our opener in the U.S.”
The Cubs play two exhibition games March 14 and 16 before facing the Dodgers in regular-season games March 18-19. Marquee hired Cohen to be Sciambi’s backup for when such scheduling conflicts arise. Sciambi also is the voice of ESPN Radio’s “Sunday Night Baseball.”
The Score will have Pat Hughes, Ron Coomer and Zach Zaidman call the two games against the Dodgers from the Wrigley Field radio booth, just as they did for road games during the pandemic.
