Alabama, Kalen DeBoer Among Top Schools For 5-Star CB John Meredith III

Kalen DeBoer has had a rocky start to his tenure as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team in Tuscaloosa. Despite the inconsistencies on the gridiron, Coach DeBoer and his staff have continued to find elite success on the recruiting trail, and there are very few signs of that slowing down any time soon.

On Tuesday, DeBoer and the Crimson Tide received more good news on the recruiting front, with the announcement that elite five-star cornerback John Meredith III had included Alabama in his top six.

Hayes Fawcett of Rivals announced that Meredith had narrowed his choice of schools down to Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas, and Miami.

Where does John Meredith Rank Nationally?

John Meredith hails from the state of Texas and is a consensus five-star prospect who ranks as a top-five overall player on nearly every recruiting ranking service. Rivals ranks Meredith as the No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2027.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Meredith has elite length for the cornerback position, something that the Alabama coaching staff highly covets. Meredith also possesses incredible speed and quickness, which makes him one of the most dynamic players in the class.

Alabama already has several cornerbacks that are in the 6-foot-2 range, headlined by rising sophomore sensation Dijon Lee, who stands at 6-foot-4 and burst onto the scene in 2025 as one of Alabama’s best defensive backs. Meredith would fall right in line with what Alabama defensive back coach Mo Linguist is looking for at the cornerback position.

Who is Trending for John Meredith?

According to Hunter Shelton of Rivals, Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies appear in the best position to land Meredith.

The in-state Aggies have put the full-court press on the elite prospect, and that has caught the attention of Meredith.“They’ve been recruiting me hard — since before I was who I was”, Meredith told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals.

Alabama (May 29), Texas (June 5), A&M (June 12), and Ohio State (June 19) have all locked in official visits with Meredith, with Miami and Coach Cristobal working to secure one as well.

Where Does Alabama Stand with John Meredith?

Even though Texas A&M appears to have the edge, Meredith, including the Crimson Tide among his top schools, shows that the other programs remain firmly in contention.

Alabama has obviously made Meredith a top priority, and landing such an elite prospect would be a massive win for Coach DeBoer and the Alabama coaching staff on the recruiting trail.

Considering Alabama’s recent success recruiting at the defensive back position, you can never count out the Tide.
