Akshay Bhatia Reveals Challenges Behind His Rise to Augusta

Ahead of his third appearance at the Masters Tournament, Akshay Bhatia is taking a moment to reflect on just how far he’s come.

In collaboration with PGA Tour Studios, Bhatia stars in a behind-the-scenes documentary titled “The Life: Akshay Bhatia presented by Zyrtec.” The video offers an inside look at one of the PGA Tour’s rising stars.

The Life: Akshay Bhatia

Bhatia’s story includes a defining moment. At just 10 or 11 years old, he asked his father a question that would shape his future: “Dad, how do I become the best player in the world?”

The answer was straightforward and unforgettable:

“Be the first person at the golf course, and the last person to leave.”

That mindset became important to Bhatia’s development, and he continues to credit his father as one of his biggest supporters.

Bhatia turned professional at just 17 years old, immediately testing himself against the highest competition on the PGA Tour. His early struggles were real. He received seven Tour starts as a teenager and missed every cut. Those disappointments only fueled his growth, and perseverance paid off.

His breakthrough came at the Barracuda Championship in 2023, where he earned his first PGA Tour victory and secured full Tour status. From there, his trajectory has continued upward. He went on to win at the Valero Texas Open in 2024, followed by his most recent win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2026.

Now based in Jupiter, Florida, a hub for PGA Tour professionals, Bhatia has embraced both the individual and team aspects of the game. He joined the Jupiter Links team in TGL, and has experienced the uniqueness of team-based, stadium-style golf. A vastly different environment than on Tour.

Off the course, Bhatia’s personality shows through in moments like gifting his sister a BMW after recording his first career hole-in-one on Tour.

Full-Circle Masters Moment

Bhatia’s connection to Augusta runs deeper than most. He competed in the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals in 2014. A decade later, his journey came full circle. Ten years after, Bhatia captured his win at Valero Texas Open. He became the first former participant to earn a Masters invitation through a PGA Tour victory.

However, even that win came with difficulties. Bhatia was battling shoulder discomfort while chasing a top-50 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking. Instead of barely scraping by, he secured his place with the win.

Playing Through the Challenges

Like many players, Bhatia has also dealt with challenges beyond competition, including allergies.

Through a recent partnership between the PGA Tour and Zyrtec, he’s found another role as brand ambassador alongside a much needed relief that helps him perform at his best, adding another layer to the realities of life as a professional golfer.

What Bhatia’s Repping at the 2026 Masters

Heading into Masters week, Bhatia has also turned heads with his style.

A longtime ambassador for TravisMathew, he’s recently been spotted wearing an unreleased pair of shoes, along with the “Our Favorite Time of Year” collection. The Masters-inspired line that was created in collaboration with Bhatia himself.

The look features subtle green and pink accents, a nod to Augusta’s iconic aesthetic.

Bhatia will tee off in the opening round of Augusta National on Thursday April 9th at 9:55 a.m. EDT with playing partners Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Reed. Fans can watch the trio from Masters.com, or the Masters app.
