SAN JOSE — A company that makes robots enhanced by artificial intelligence has shifted its headquarters to a big San Jose office building in a major expansion for the tech firm.
Figure AI has relocated to San Jose after exiting its much smaller former headquarters in Sunnyvale.
The AI robotics company has moved to an office and research building at 3960 North First Street in San Jose, according to this news organization’s direct observation of the company’s new headquarters site.
“Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general purpose humanoid robots,” the company said in February 2024.
Brett Adcock, Figure AI’s founder and chief executive officer, touted the relocation to the San Jose headquarters in a post on his LinkedIn page.
In addition to the headquarters, the new Figure AI “robot campus” will also support “manufacturing, fleet operations and overall engineering/design build-out,” Adcock stated on his LinkedIn page.
Figure AI’s new offices are at 3960 North First Street. The building totals 98,700 square feet. Figure’s head offices are next to the headquarters of Logitech, which is at 3930 North First Street.
Both buildings are part of the Assembly at North First complex, a tech campus on North First Street between Headquarters Drive and Rose Orchard Way.
The building that Figure AI occupies totals 98,700 square feet. Typical space and worker ratios indicate a building of that size could be large enough for 400 to 500 workers.
Before the relocation to San Jose, Figure occupied a Sunnyvale building that totals 27,900 square feet, according to the LoopNet commercial property database.
“Our vision at Figure is to bring humanoid robots into commercial operations as soon as possible,” Adcock said. “
In February 2024, Figure AI landed $675 million through a capital raise from Microsoft, OpenAI Startup Fund, Nvidia, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Parkway Venture Capital, Intel Capital and others.
“We’re blown away by Figure’s progress to date,” said OpenAI vice president Peter Welinder. “We look forward to working together to open up new possibilities for how robots can help in everyday life.”
The funding round pointed to a valuation of $2.6 billion for Figure AI.
“Our vision at Figure is to bring humanoid robots into commercial operations as soon as possible,” Figure AI CEO Adcock said. “This investment, combined with our partnership with OpenAI and Microsoft, ensures that we are well-prepared to bring embodied AI into the world. AI and robotics are the future.”
