A Denver Police Department officer arrested on suspicion of assault and domestic violence allegedly pushed and shoved the victim after a drunken argument, according to an arrest affidavit.
Troy Martin Smith, 50, was arrested in the 600 block of Box Elder Creek Drive in Brighton on Friday night.
The victim called police at around 11:15 p.m. after an argument with Smith became physical, a Brighton police officer wrote in the affidavit.
Smith and the woman had been drinking and were outside when they started arguing and Smith allegedly grabbed her arms and forcefully pushed her down. The woman began to fight back, and officers reported Smith had a black eye and scratches on his face and arms, according to the affidavit.
Smith “eventually relented” and they went inside, where he pushed the woman, causing her to fall.
An attorney for Smith did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Denver police officials released a statement about Smith’s arrest on Tuesday and said he was reassigned to a non-patrol assignment while his case goes through the court system. An administrative review of the incident will start after his court case concludes.
Smith was hired in 2007 and most recently worked in the Denver International Airport bureau, according to the department.
He was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond.
