The future of 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh is currently up in the air. While the door is open for the four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion to return to play for the Steelers, a decision has not officially been made by Rodgers himself. But if he does end up returning, he may have the chance to play with a wide receiver who considers him to be the greatest quarterback of all time.
That wide receiver is none other than USC star Makai Lemon, who has already formally met with the Steelers in the pre-draft process. After being named an All-American in his final season with the Trojans, Lemon is interested in making his mark in the NFL catching passes from Rodgers.
Additionally, Lemon is one of 13 wide receivers that the Steelers have met with in the pre-draft process. Whether Rodgers is there or not in 2026, the Steelers are clearly looking to fix the wide receiver room.
Could Aaron Rodgers and Makai Lemon Team Up on the Pittsburgh Steelers?
GettyThe Pittsburgh Steelers could target USC wide receiver Makai Lemon with one of their early-round draft picks.
The chances of both Rodgers and Lemon teaming up in the Steel City could be higher than most may think. Not only has Lemon already met with the Steelers at the NFL Combine, but Rodgers already has a strong relationship with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. Furthermore, Lemon held Rodgers in high regard in front of the NFL media on Friday in Indianapolis, saying:
“He’s a GOAT. He’s a legend.”
This came after Lemon was asked which quarterbacks he would like to catch passes from at the next level. The Fred Biletnikoff Award winner finished second in the Big Ten in 2025 with 1,156 receiving yards. After having just one pass-catcher eclipse 500 yards receiving in 2025, the Steelers are clearly looking for help at that position.
This is where Lemon could come in and put major stress on opposing defenses. If he were to be on the board when Pittsburgh comes on the clock in April, it will be interesting to see if McCarthy and Co. select him or not.
Aaron Rodgers is Deserving of GOAT Status

Lemon’s aforementioned high praise for the future Hall of Fame signal-caller in Rodgers is certainly worthy. After all, 21-year veterans don’t just grow on trees in the NFL.
Perhaps the most talented quarterback to ever play the position, Rodgers is also the only quarterback in NFL history with at least 400 passing touchdowns and a passer rating of over 100. In fact, the California native is tied with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson at the top of the NFL’s all-time passer rating list (102.2).
Rodgers alone holds the NFL record for both touchdown-to-interception ratio (4.3-1)and interception percentage among qualified players (1.4%). He also currently ranks in the top five all-time in completions (5,696), passing yards (66,274), and passing touchdowns (527). Somehow, he is arguably the most efficient passer in league history while also being one of the most prolific throwers ever.
The longtime Green Bay Packer (2005-2022) and one-time New York Jet (2023-2024) has accomplished everything a young quarterback dreams about. Whether he returns to Pittsburgh or not, his legacy is cemented as arguably the greatest quarterback the game has ever seen.
