In the 75 years of the Sun-Times’ history, members of the editorial board have come and gone. Three of us on the current board — Editorial Page Editor Lorraine Forte and board members Marlen Garcia and Thomas Frisbie — are among 30 Sun-Times employees taking buyouts. Lee Bey and Rummana Hussain will remain at the paper with new duties.
You will continue to find op-eds and letters to the editor on the opinion pages, which we hope will remain a forum where readers can find thoughtful, fact-based — and yes, sometimes provocative — viewpoints. If you want to share yours, we urge you to check out our submission guidelines at chicago.suntimes.com/pages/submitting-op-eds-and-letters
The five of us have shared a love of journalism and for Chicago. It’s been a privilege for us to share our love of journalism, and of this city, as members of this board. We’ve told you when we think leaders have taken a wrong turn — for Chicago, the state of Illinois, and the nation — and when we believe leaders have done the right thing. Our audience has let us know when they agreed with us and when they didn’t. As they should, because a big-city newspaper is a place for sharing, not stifling, different perspectives.
We leave our readers with this: We hope we made you think.
Lorraine Forte, Marlen Garcia, Thomas Frisbie, Lee Bey, Rummana Hussain.
