A new Chick-fil-A could be coming to West San Jose

A stretch of West San Jose slated for future residential and commercial growth could also welcome a new eatery as Chick-fil-A continues to expand its footprint in the Bay Area.

Developers have submitted plans to demolish an existing 10,400-square-foot commercial building at 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd. and replace it with a 5,245-square-foot, 70-seat restaurant.

The proposed development sits next to the Stevens Creek Promenade project — a transformative, mixed-use urban village concept approved years ago — that has struggled to move forward due to changes in the real estate market.

The popular restaurant chain currently has nine open locations in Santa Clara County with other plans to add more in the surrounding areas.

Earlier this year, the company submitted plans for a new 78-seat restaurant at 1301 W. San Carlos St., giving the company potential locations within a short jaunt to the east and west of Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair.

Chick-fil-A also put a halt to plans recently to build a new restaurant in Campbell at 2060 S. Bascom Ave. after facing huge pushback from the Dry Creek neighborhood.

The potential addition of Chick-fil-A to Stevens Creek Boulevard comes at a time when developers are rethinking their plans for that major stretch of West San Jose.

The original Promenade concept brought forth by Santa Monica-based Miramar Capital Group and MPG Stevens Creek Owner envisioned offices, apartments, retail, restaurant spaces and a hotel between 4300 and 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd.

But with the office market still shaky, those plans have changed as the project now is considering adding 173 affordable housing units to the 191 market-rate units planned as well as other uses at the site.

The developers of the Promenade also recently submitted a review request to determine the feasibility of a new car dealership on 3.8 acres that are part of the development site.
