A letter from Marcus Mozer, winner of the 2024 Denver Post Gold Helmet Award

I want to start by thanking God, because without Him, none of this would be possible. He has blessed me with the ability to play the sport I love and has placed the right people in my life to make this journey a reality.

I am truly honored and grateful to receive this prestigious award. It means so much to me to be recognized alongside the incredible athletes and individuals who have won this before me.

First, I’d like to express my deepest thanks to my parents and my family. Their unwavering support through the years has meant the world to me. From everything on the field, to my academics, and my community involvement, my family has always been there, pushing me to be the best version of myself.

I would also like to thank all of my coaches and teammates who have helped me reach this point. Each one has played a pivotal role in my growth, not only on the field but off it as well. To my teammates especially, you have been there every day, through the summer workouts, the tough seasons, and even our daily classes. We’ve all been in this together, and I couldn’t have achieved this without you.

Lastly, I want to thank The Denver Post for selecting me for this incredible honor. I know there were many other deserving candidates, and I am truly humbled to be chosen. This award represents not only what we accomplish on the field, but also the efforts we put into our education and community. My coach always reminds us that it’s not what we do on the field that will define us, but the legacy we leave behind and the way we treat others both on and off the field.

Your cool black kitchenware could be slowly poisoning you, study says. Here’s what to do

I hope that I have been able to inspire the younger generation, showing them that the person you are off the field is far more important than how you perform on it. While winning is important, it’s the type of person you are that will be remembered long after the game ends.

Thank you again to everyone who has been part of this journey.
