A 17-year-old was riding with friends in Oakland when one allegedly killed him, police say

OAKLAND — Police here have identified a 17-year-old boy who was shot and killed while riding in a vehicle with other teenagers earlier this month.

The victim, identified as D’Alessandro Miguel, died after being shot while riding in a car full of other teens as it drove on the 1100 block of 86th Avenue in Oakland, police said. The car’s driver, another 17-year-old boy, reportedly parked the vehicle and called 911.

But the 17-year-old driver was allegedly the only one to stick around. Three other occupants fled before officers arrived, though police say they were able to track down and arrest at least one of them. Thus far, no one has been charged with killing Miguel, court records show.

At least one eyewitness told police that the person who killed Miguel was showing off a pistol he’d recently acquired when the gun fired, authorities said.

An online fundraiser for Miguel says that his younger sister is suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment, while Miguel’s family deals with the hardships of burying their son.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Oakland Police Department’s homicide unit at 510-238-3821, or its tip line at 510-238-7950. Tips — such as videos or photos — also can be emailed to cidvideo@oaklandca.gov.
