81-year-old man dead following Ravenswood blaze

An 81-year-old man was killed in a Ravenswood fire Thursday evening on the North Side.

The fire broke out at a home in the 5100 block of North Oakley Avenue around 5 p.m., Chicago police said. Jose Alcazar, 81, was found inside and taken to Swedish Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Seven people inside the home were able to escape uninjured, police said.

The fire was extinguished sometime before 6 p.m., according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

Its cause was under investigation.
