A 6-year-old boy who was killed in a West Ridge apartment fire Friday has been identified.

Milan Campbell, 6, was killed in the extra-alarm fire that erupted about 11:15 a.m. Friday in an apartment building in the 2700 block of West Granville Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The blaze also critically injured Milan’s mother, according to a GoFundMe page that has raised over $82,600 as of Monday morning.

The fire likely started on the first floor of the 12-unit building, but its initial cause and origin still are being investigated, a district fire chief who briefed reporters at the scene Friday said.
