49ers Star George Kittle’s Achilles Recovery Gets Major Update

The San Francisco 49ers and star tight end George Kittle are hoping to push back into Super Bowl contention during the upcoming 2026 NFL season.

Kittle, who has been one of the league’s top tight ends for years, is coming off of a torn Achilles. He suffered that injury during the team’s Wild Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs last year.

Coming back from a torn Achilles is never an easy task. However, Kittle has been attacking his rehab process and has made impressive progress. He could very well be on pace to make his return to the field in Week 1.

With that being said, Kittle has provided a new update about his recovery.

49ers Star George Kittle Announces Major Injury Update

“The rehab is actually pretty straightforward,” Kittle said.

“You either do standing calf raises or seated calf raises until you can run and walk and stuff. So I’m walking. I got off of crutches a couple weeks ago. We’re back on a golf course. Everything’s trending in the right direction. It’s going great.”

He continued on, sharing more details about his recovery process.

“Crutches for like 10 or 11 weeks, that sucked. But, like I said, we’re past it. I’m having a great time. The only negative is that my wife now knows that I can carry things again, and so I’ve been helping her move boxes. So that’s some downside of getting off crutches.”

Obviously, he stopped just short of providing an expected return date. He’s not ready to put a timeline on his recovery just yet. But, things seem to be progressing in the right direction.

San Francisco Needs a Healthy Kittle to Be a Contender

Over the years, Kittle has become one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the NFL. He has become the favorite for star quarterback Brock Purdy.

Last season with the 49ers, the 32-year-old tight end played in 11 regular season games. He caught 57 passes for 628 yards and seven touchdowns.

Throughout his entire nine-year NFL career, Kittle has played in 124 games. He has totaled 595 receptions for 8,008 yards and 52 touchdowns.

In order for San Francisco to reach its goals and be a Super Bowl contender once again, Kittle will need to be healthy and playing at a high level. This update certainly hints at that being a very likely scenario. However, he’ll need to actually get back on the field and prove that he can pick up where he left off.

Expect to hear more updates on Kittle’s progress in the coming weeks. For now, this update gives 49ers fans a reason to be excited.
