49ers’ Brock Purdy Drops True Feelings on Seahawks Defense

Brock Purdy will be looking to have a better performance for the San Francisco 49ers against the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round of the playoffs. The two rivals met recently on Jan. 3, and it was a 13-3 defensive showing with the Seahawks getting the better end of the Niners.

Moreover, in the game, Purdy went 19-for-27 on his pass attempts for 127 passing yards and a 64.9 passer rating. The 49ers QB was also sacked three times by the Seattle defense, capping off a forgettable performance.

Nonetheless, there’s a quick turnaround for redemption. Ahead of the playoff game in Seattle, the San Francisco star was asked about Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald and his defense, and what makes facing that unit a challenging task for any signal-caller.

“He just does a good job of making the quarterback have to earn everything, and I feel like there’s not a lot of easy gimme plays out there,” Purdy told reporters on Jan. 14. “You have to play quarterback for four quarters, be smart with the ball, and go through your progressions truly.

“On top of that, the front, how they coach up their front with the push in the pocket, playing pretty deep to short on a lot of things, does not allow a lot of explosive plays across the board.

“You have to earn every single yard. That’s obviously for the quarterback, but it goes for the whole offense as a whole. He does a good job, though. He has a good scheme, and on top of that, really good players.”

49ers Can’t Look to Get Greedy Against Seahawks Defense

Moreover, Purdy understands that against the Seahawks’ defense, he can’t be greedy on offense, and sometimes the smart play is to take whatever he can get.

“I think over the years I’ve sort of had to learn in certain situations, when to be patient, take what they give you, stay on the field, and compete on third downs and do that the whole way or there are a couple of ops maybe if we do have a play call with an opportunity on and they give us a look, like let’s go and let’s take it,” Purdy added.

“It’s just that fine balance, but I’ve been up against [Macdonald] a couple of times, and I feel like the theme of it has been definitely to be patient and find ways to stay on the field.”

Seahawks on Facing 49ers for Third Time

Meanwhile, Macdonald recently spoke about facing the 49ers for a third time and what it will take for his squad to beat a team that knows them so well.

“They’re a heck of a team,” Macdonald told NBC Sports’ Maria Taylor on FaceTime on Jan. 11. “We’ve got to play great situational football. They’re so good on third down on both sides. The special teams, like the starting field position, were a big part of the last game. So we did a great job taking care of the ball on offense. We attacked it on defense. We got to be able to do that back at Lumen.”
