4 plead guilty in ambush killing of pregnant woman in Lakewood

Four women have pleaded guilty to roles in the 2023 ambush murder of a pregnant woman in Lakewood, while three other suspects continue to face felony charges.

Melanie Massay, 22, was ambushed and shot to death two years ago on a residential street near Colo. 121 and U.S. 6, according to police and prosecutors. Massay’s unborn child died in the attack, while a second victim was shot in the back and survived.

Monte Hayes, 24; ReaAsia Hollins, 21; DaJanah Abrams, 26; Jrayla Taylor, 23; and Trinity Walker, 19; were arrested for the shootings in January 2024.

A sixth suspect — Jaliyah Burks, 20 — surrendered to police in March 2024. The seventh and final suspect — Isaac Pierrie, 24 — was arrested in Aurora earlier this month.

So far, four of the seven have pleaded guilty to violent felonies and are awaiting sentencing:

  • Abrams — pleaded guilty Oct. 28 to second-degree assault, while charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers were dismissed; her sentencing is scheduled Aug. 4.
  • Burks — pleaded not guilty Jan. 15 to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers; her trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 11.
  • Hayes — pleaded not guilty Aug. 19 to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers; his trial is scheduled to begin July 7.
  • Hollins — pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to second-degree murder with a violent-crime sentence enhancer, while charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree unlawful termination of a pregnancy and two violent-crime sentence enhancers were dismissed; her sentencing is scheduled May 1.
  • Pierrie — charged Jan. 17, 2024, with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers; his next court hearing is scheduled March 31.
  • Taylor — pleaded guilty Oct. 23 to second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, while charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers were dismissed; her next court hearing is scheduled April 28.
  • Walker — pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to second-degree assault, while charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two violent-crime sentence enhancers were dismissed; her sentencing is scheduled Aug. 4.

All were being held at the Jefferson County jail as of Friday.
