A 28-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested Thursday for a fatal South Side shooting on July 4, 2023.
Luis Vela allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old Leonardo Martinez at around 7:20 a.m. in the 4400 block of South Wood Street, according to Chicago police. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was injured in the shooting and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Vela was charged with first-degree murder and will make his first court appearance Sunday.
