2024 bathroom trends: Embrace wallpaper, soaking tubs, floating vanities

From exploring new finishes and embracing color to adding wallpaper and using floating sinks, vanities, and mirrors, homeowners increasingly use their bathrooms to express themselves.

While some homeowners renovate their primary baths, which can be timely and expensive, others opt to update their powder rooms, often doing the work themselves.

Melanie Madden with 8z said renovating a powder room can be easy and relatively inexpensive.

“It can be a fun way to put your signature on your home without making a major commitment.”

Madden said that making simple changes, such as replacing the faucet, updating cabinet hardware, or adding a new coat of paint, can make a big difference.

Adding wallpaper can transform a small space. While some people avoid wallpaper in bathrooms due to worries about moisture, new wallpaper offers waterproof and moisture-resistant options.

Trying new finishes

Chrome is no longer the primary choice for bathroom fixtures. Instead, more homeowners opt for rose gold, gold, and brass fixtures.

Homeowners also opting for floating vanities, mirrors, and sinks.

Floating vanities and sinks create a sleek, modern look by appearing to “float” above the floor, giving the illusion of more space.

“It looks a little crisper,” Madden said.

Floating mirrors create a striking visual by appearing to float on the wall or from the ceiling. Whether it’s a minimalist rectangular mirror or a more ornate and decorative piece, the floating mirror trend adds a touch of sophistication to your home décor.

This trend is prevalent in contemporary and minimalist interior design styles, where clean lines and sleek aesthetics take center stage.

Tile trends

Chevron tile and fluted slabs have been gaining popularity in bathroom design.

The classic chevron pattern adds a touch of elegance and visual interest to any bathroom, while fluted slabs bring a sense of texture and dimension to the space.

While white and neutral tones have long been popular for bathroom tiles, more homeowners now opt for bolder colors to add personality and vibrancy to their bathrooms.
