Two people were killed in crashes hours apart on Interstate 57 near 159th Street early Thursday and Wednesday night in suburban Oak Forest.
Around 1:35 a.m. one person died in a three-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of I-57 at 159th Street, officials said. Traffic was diverted off at 159th Street until about 5:30 a.m.
Wednesday night around 8:40 p.m., another person was killed in a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-57 just south of 159th Street, Illinois state police said. “Multiple” people were injured in the crash, but the exact number and extent of their injuries weren’t immediately available.
Traffic was diverted at 167th Street until lanes reopened around 4:40 a.m Thursday., state police said.
It wasn’t immediately known whether those killed were drivers or passengers in the vehicles and further details weren’t immediately available.
