2 found dead inside burning Thornton home suspected as arson

Two people who had been shot were found dead inside a Thornton home on Wednesday that investigators believe was intentionally set on fire, police said.

Thornton police officers and fire crews responded at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a structure fire in the 16300 block of Columbine Street, in the Orchard Farms subdivision, according to the police department.

Firefighters found two people dead inside the home with gunshot wounds: a 58-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man. Neither victim has been publicly identified.

The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the pair’s identities and cause and manner of death at a later date.

Investigators believe the fire was arson, but the exact cause and circumstances remain under investigation. The fire was contained to one home and extinguished before midnight.

Police officials said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
