2 fatally shot during fight in East Garfield Park home; 1 in custody

Charges were pending for a man who was arrested after a man and a woman were fatally shot during a fight Monday night in an East Garfield Park home.

Two men, 44 and 31, began fighting around 9:40 p.m. at the home in the 2800 block of West Washington Boulevard when the older man pulled out a knife and attacked the younger man, Chicago police said.

But the younger man, who has a valid firearm owner identification card, pulled a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting the knife-wielding man multiple times in the body, police said. A 38-year-old woman trying to intervene was shot in the head.

Both gunshot victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where they were pronounced dead, officials said.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The FOID card holder was in custody and charges were pending.
