2 dead in Bronzeville traffic crash

A man and woman were dead after a car ran a red light and plowed into their car early Monday in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

Around 1:40 a.m., an 18-year-old behind the wheel of a black Infiniti sedan was southbound in the 3500 block of South Michigan Avenue when he failed to stop at a red light and struck a silver car in the intersection, Chicago police said.

The driver of the silver car, a 45-year-old man, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. A 40-year-old woman who his passenger was taken to the same hospital where she also died.

The driver of the Infiniti was taken to the University of Chicago where he was listed in fair condition, officials said.

The Major Accidents Unit was investigating the crash.
