2 charged with carjacking, kidnapping of woman and child in South Loop

Two people, including a 14-year-old girl, are facing charges in a South Loop carjacking and kidnapping Tuesday afternoon.

A 29-year-old woman was driving with a 1-year-old girl in the backseat when two people jumped inside their vehicle in an attempted carjacking in the 400 block of West Harrison Street around 2:30 p.m., Chicago police said.

The suspects, an 18-year-old man and the teenage girl, held the woman at gunpoint until they reached the intersection of Harrison and Paulina, where they ordered the woman and child to get out, police said.

Officers found and arrested the teen girl and man less than two hours later in the 400 block of East 35th Street.

The teen girl is facing one count each of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated kidnapping and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The man, identified as Taylen Byndum of Bolingbrook, is facing two counts of vehicular hijacking, armed kidnapping and aggravated kidnapping, police said.

No injuries were reported.
