2 arrested after high-speed chase on Dan Ryan Expressway

Two people are in custody after a crash involving a west suburban Downers Grove police officer on the Northwest Side prompted a high-speed pursuit Friday afternoon.

The two were identified as suspects in a recent residential burglary involving a Nissan Rogue in Downers Grove, Downers Grove Police Chief Mike DeVries wrote in an email to the Sun-Times. They were also connected to separate residential burglaries in unincorporated Kane County and Naperville earlier Friday, according to DeVries.

Authorities located the suspects in the parking lot of the White Castle at West Addison Street and North Kedzie Avenue in Irving Park. While officers tried to take them into custody, the suspects fled in the Nissan Rogue, hitting an on-duty officer from Downers Grove, DeVries said. The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

The suspects, who were traveling in a Nissan Rogue, fled the scene and drove onto the Dan Ryan Expressway. They switched vehicles at 31st Street on the Dan Ryan Expressway and got into a Dodge minivan.

Chicago police followed the suspects to the 7100 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Grand Crossing and they were placed in custody, police said.

One person involved in the crash was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Their condition was unknown.

The Nissan Rogue was later recovered, police said.
