16-year-old boy shot during Auburn Gresham ‘chemical agent’ carjacking

A 16-year-old boy was shot during a carjacking involving a ‘chemical agent’ Thursday morning in Auburn Gresham on the South Side.

Around 5:20 a.m., a 47-year-old man was in his vehicle in the 1600 block of West 82nd Street when a group of about four people including a 16-year-old boy demanded his Toyota Camry before “discharging a chemical agent” toward the man, Chicago police said.

The 47-year-old who has a valid Firearm Owner Identification card and Concealed Carry License, opened fire, striking the 16-year-old in the left knee and grazing his left arm, police said.

The boy was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was in fair condition while the three other alleged carjackers fled in the man’s Camry and were not in custody, police said.

The 47-year-old was treated on the scene by paramedics and no charges have been announced.

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
