14-year-old arrested in fatal shooting outside RiNo bar in Denver

Denver police on Tuesday arrested a 14-year-old boy suspected of fatally shooting a man near 29th and Larimer streets in the city’s River North Arts District on July 10.

Steven Marquez was arrested in Casper, Wyoming on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of Todd Kidd in RiNo, the Denver Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. 

Kidd intervened in a disturbance at about 6:40 p.m. on July 10 and was shot by Marquez, according to Denver police. He died at a hospital Friday.

Kidd was a bouncer at Federales, according to reporting from Denver7. A crowdfunding page for his funeral expenses said he was shot “while defending his coworkers and workplace.”

“Todd is the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his pocket,” organizers wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Police identified Marquez as a suspect through surveillance video and information from witnesses, department officials said Wednesday.
