1-year-old boy among 4 hurt in South Side crash

Charges are pending for a motorist who was arrested after causing a crash that left four people including a 1-year-old boy hurt late Tuesday on the South Side.

No charges have been announced and police said a weapon was recovered from the silver car that ran a red light and rammed into a black Jeep at 71st and State Streets about 11:30 p.m..

A 1-year-old boy in the Jeep was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for an evaluation, police said. He was in a good condition.

A 22-year-old woman who was also a passenger in the Jeep was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with multiple injuries, officials said.

A 22-year-old woman who was in the silver sedan suffered a punctured lung and was taken to the University of Chicago in serious condition, authorities said.

The driver of the sedan, a 22-year-old man, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital for observation, police said. The driver of the Jeep refused medical attention.

Charges and citations were pending.
