One person was killed and another escaped with no injuries from a mid-air crash of two small aircraft in Lancaster on Sunday, Sept. 22, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. and involved a Yakovlev Yak 52 and Nanchang CJ-6A, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating. The Yak-52 was described as a vintage Soviet-era aircraft, and the CJ-6A as a decades-old Chinese plane.

One of the planes came down in the area of 47th Street East and Avenue F, and the other in the area of 60th Street East and Avenue G, Capt. Sheila Kelliher of the Los Angeles County Fire Department told City News Service.
The crash sites are about 2 1/2 miles apart, CBS Los Angeles reported.
Only the pilots were on board both aircraft, the Federal Aviation Administration said. It was unclear which plane was carrying the victim who died. Neither pilot was immediately identified by authorities.
