1 killed, 13 shot night on New Year’s Eve

One man was killed and 13 others injured in shootings across the city Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, according to Chicago police.

A man, 29, was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in the 9400 block of South Harvard Avenue at 3:30 a.m. in Roseland, police said. No one is in custody.

More than a dozen others were wounded in shootings throughout the night of New Year’s Eve.

Around 2:50 a.m., a woman, 43, and man, 38, were in a “verbal altercation” in a residence in the 1200 block of South Sawyer Avenue when the man shot her several times, police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition; the man was arrested after officers searched the area near where the shooting occurred in North Lawndale.

Fifteen minutes later, a man, 30, was standing outside in the 4500 block of South Champlain Avenue at 3:05 a.m. when he was shot by someone driving by in a red vehicle, police said. He was shot in the face and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he is in critical condition; no one is in custody.
