Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have scored a big hit with the Netflix series With Love, Meghan. However, will the couple find themselves on the right side of the deal as their contract with the streaming service comes up for renewal? Two insiders say maybe not.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix deal may not be secure

After five years as Netflix employees, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have released five projects: Harry & Meghan, Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, Polo, and most recently, With Love, Meghan.

Thus far, only their docuseries and Meghan’s lifestyle show have been successful. As their contract comes up to its expiration date, there’s chatter that the couple’s deal won’t be renewed as most of their projects have been unsuccessful.

Per <a href=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/royals/33783282/meghan-harry-netflix-deal-renewed/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Sun, a TV insider said, “Netflix has been broadly pleased with the [With Love, Meghan] and doesn’t care if the reviews are scathing. The streamer’s name has been on everyone’s lips for the past week and that’s a victory for them.”

The insider continued, “But it’s now a question of whether they feel that striking another deal represents value for money, or if they feel that they have explored all the opportunities they can with the couple.”

Netflix has not announced if they will not renew the couple’s contract. It ends in August 2025.

Per <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14355823/Netflix-Meghan-Harry-excited-future-projects-cooking-deal.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Daily Mail, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria claims the company is still “excited” at the prospect of future projects with Harry and Meghan. Bajaria stands by the couple and their future with Netflix.

“It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito, and nature. It really has great takeaways,” Bajaria explained.

“I was like ‘Oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.” There are really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out.”

Bajaria also discussed the couple’s screen adaptation of the bestselling romance novel Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune. She added, “It is in development. It is a great book, she had it and we are happy to do it. And we have things in development. Everyone is excited about what is coming.

However, the one thing Bajaria didn’t do was confirm if Netflix would continue the couple’s contract. As they initially signed for five years at $100 million, there’s a lot of money on the line. The question remains how much will Netflix be willing to pay for a brand that’s only successfully delivered on two out of five of its projects

Insider Spills Details: ‘With Love, Meghan’ Gets Season 2 — But Is Meghan’s Markle’s Netflix Deal in Trouble?

Royal insider Tina Brown discussed the couple’s Netflix deal in her Fresh Hell newsletter. She wrote, “The only reason any of these deals were signed was for low-down dish on the royals.”

But with projects about polo, a philanthropy piece titled Live to Lead, and Harry’s Invictus series, the couple strayed far from what was likely the reason Netflix signed them in the first place: juicy gossip. Once that era of their life was done, the couple floundered.

Brown believes that instead of a lifestyle series, Meghan should have been open about her struggles to find herself the past five years. Or as Brown puts it, “what a flaming flop the last five years have been.”

“If she had shown us that truth, with door-slamming scenes of her shrieking ‘find me an effing project’ at the multiple ‘brand consultants’ revolving through her Montecito manse, and Harry conked out on a sofa in his earbuds, the British public would be clamoring to have her back,” Brown concluded.

Netflix has renewed With Love, Meghan for season 2. It will debut in the fall of 2025.
