<p id=”par-1_29″>Jalen Chatfield has carved out one of the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/sports/?swcfpc=1″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>NHL</a>’s most inspiring success stories. The Carolina Hurricanes defenseman reached the league without ever being selected in the NHL Draft. </p>
<p id=”par-2_63″>The Michigan native played junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. There, he helped the team capture the 2017 Memorial Cup, one of junior hockey’s most prestigious championships. Despite his success, Chatfield was not drafted by an NHL team. However, the Vancouver Canucks saw potential in the mobile defenseman and signed him to an entry-level contract in 2017. </p>
<p id=”par-3_96″>He spent several seasons developing with the organization’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets, before making his NHL debut with the Canucks during the 2020-21 season. Chatfield then signed with the Carolina Hurricanes, a move that transformed his career. He scored his first goal in December 2022 and has since become an important part of one of the league’s top defensive teams. He has established himself as a full-time defenseman and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/celebrity-athletes/?swcfpc=1″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>a fan favorite</a> in Raleigh. <p id=”par-5_15″>Chatfield and Scott have been together since before he made it to the NHL. </p>
<p id=”par-6_44″>They met at a Boston Pizza chain in Canada, where Scott worked and the players from Spitfires would stop at after their games. <a href=”https://www.tiktok.com/@icedtea.podcast/video/7478696063524834606?lang=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Scott said</a> the two started out as good friends for a while before things turned romantic and they began dating. </p>
<p id=”par-7_41″>In 2024, Chatfield got down on one knee and asked his longtime girlfriend to marry him. She happily accepted, and they tied the knot a year later on July 25, 2025, at The Merrimon Wynne House in Raleigh, North Carolina. </p>

She is the founder of Healthful Drew and has also worked with the Canes Better Halves, a philanthropic and social organization formed by the wives and significant others of players, coaches, and management of the Carolina Hurricanes. The group actively supports the local Raleigh-Durham community through charitable giving and volunteer work. </p>
<p id=”par-10_26″>In addition to their community work, the Canes Better Halves host events that bond the team’s families and foster a supportive off-ice environment for the athletes.</p>

<p id=”par-12_11″>They welcomed their son, Krew Ray Harris Chatfeild, in 2023. </p>
<p id=”par-13_47″>The proud parents made the announcement on social media, with Shott writing that he was “born July 14th at 4:51 a.m. | 9 lbs | 22 inches. I don’t have the words to explain how much love and joy this little boy has brought into our lives.”</p>
<p id=”par-14_55″>As for their second child, Chatfield revealed in a press conference that his wife went into labor during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He found out the exciting news during the on-ice trophy presentation. After that, he was able to get a police escort to the hospital and meet their new baby. </p>
